Cocaine Brain Damage

In recent studies about brain damage from cocaine, it has shown that the blood flow within a user’s brain is impaired, when compared to a non-cocaine user’s brain. This is because tests show that cocaine causes a constriction of the blood vessels. In similar studies it was even found that when a user was merely thinking of cocaine, it altered cerebral blood flow. It has also been found that when using cocaine with other substances, such as alcohol, heroin or tobacco, the decrease in blood flow was even more noticeable and could even lead to further brain damage, hemorrhaging or even death.

Prolonged usage, or excessive use of cocaine, or can cause hallucinations and paranoid delusions. It can also cause strokes, memory loss, learning disabilities and attention deficit problems, just to name a few. Every time a person uses cocaine they suffer some degree of brain damage, and by changing the dopamine neurons through use, a tolerance is built leaving the user feeling unfulfilled. Therefore, higher levels of cocaine are needed to achieve the “high” that the user is accustomed to experiencing. This leads to even more brain damage and further increases the possibility of developing one of the many conditions associated with continued cocaine usage as already mentioned.

There are also several physical side effects that a user can expect to experience with prolonged cocaine usage. By snorting cocaine, one can expect to eventually do permanent damage to their nasal passage, called cocaine nose, which degrades the nasal cartilage until a hole is burned through to the outside of the nose. One can also experience severe lung trauma from smoking cocaine. Tooth decay and loss of enamel is also often associated with cocaine use. Naturally there is always a chance of overdose when using cocaine, which can exhibit many outcomes from debilitation to coma or even death.

When one is trying to get treatment for a cocaine addiction, there are a variety of side effects which will happen in varying degrees. The user may experience increased appetite, unpleasant dreams, insomnia, and agitation. Though it is always advised that cocaine usage be stopped immediately, these withdrawal side effects are minimal in comparison to the cocaine brain damage which the user can potentially inflict upon himself or herself with further cocaine addiction.

It’s common knowledge that the continued use of cocaine has detrimental effects on the human body. It always alters the user’s mood, can cause a variety of long term health effects, and will often ruin the users personal relationships and professional opportunities.

Brain damage from cocaine use is probably the most alarming of its negative aspects, as it can lead to devastating results and irreversible consequences.

Cocaine brain damage is a life changing and devastating side effect of drug usage. Unchecked cocaine usage will alter the way its users interact with others and their ability to lead a long and productive life. Given the fact that over 2 million Americans are cocaine addicts, extreme measures must be taken to stop the harm that cocaine continues to inflict.

Methaemoglobinaemia Case – Byproduct of Cocaine Use

Public Health Warning Over Rare Condition Associated with Cocaine

26/11/2010 12:22 Press Release Scotland

Public Health experts in Glasgow have issued an alert to health professionals throughout the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area to be on the look out after a cocaine user was found to have a rare, serious condition associated with the use of cocaine.

A patient has been treated in a Glasgow hospital for Methaemoglobinaemia, which is a serious condition affecting the carriage of oxygen in the blood.

Dr Eleanor Anderson, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s, Consultant in Public Health, said: “Methaemoglobinaemia occurs when an increased quantity of the iron of haemogloblin is oxidised to the ferric form. Essentially it means an abnormality with the carriage of oxygen in the blood. The investigations into the cause of Methaemoglobinaemia in this case are ongoing, however other chemicals often added to increase the volume of cocaine are known to be able to induce the condition.”

The symptoms of Methaemoglobinaemia include, Cyanosis (blue lips), headache, abnormal heart rates, breathlessness, fatigue, exercise intolerance, dizziness, loss of consciousness, seizures and in severe cases coma and death.

Dr Eleanor Anderson urged: “If any cocaine users display any of these symptoms they should present to their nearest A&E, GP or Health Centre for prompt assessment and treatment for what is potentially a very serious condition.”

Cocaine Withdrawal – It’s Worth It!

You were walking down the street when suddenly you spotted somebody sitting across the street. He looked kind of weird; hair was messy. He looked like he was sleep deprived and he was shaking horribly. You hear passersby talking about how this young man got addicted to snow, being left by his family and how he badly needs to refrain from using the drug. That is cocaine.

You know that the euphoria or the state of being high experienced by frequent and habitual users after administration makes cocaine highly addictive. Addicts become harshly dependent on this illicit drug that makes the habit hard to break. Reducing or stopping the intake makes them experience the nuances of cocaine withdrawal. Typically this cocaine withdrawal includes fatigue, drowsiness, muscle pain, and continual depression to name a few. This may be caused by the depletion of dopamine, one of the brain’s neurotransmitters.

According to medical studies cocaine withdrawal can also result in many mental disorders including the simple migraine to the complicated Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, stroke and bipolar affective disorder.

It is well known to man the potential therapeutic uses of cocaine, but this drug should not be abused because of the danger that awaits the person that falls into its bait. Among others a person should think that he has only one body and once deteriorated it is very hard, if not impossible to restore to its healthy state. One should not trade his health, safety, dignity and freedom with the temporary bliss offered by this dangerous upper and stimulant. The more he gets too needy on cocaine, the more miserable he becomes without him knowing it.

There are many causes why a dependent reduces or stops using cocaine. This may be due to lack of resources to purchase more coke or the will to quit the routine. The system gets used to the drug and the inefficient shot or lack of dosage can cause extreme anxiety or insomnia. A person who wants to put an end to his addiction needs comfort and support from his peers and family so that he can go through all the symptoms caused by cocaine withdrawal. This person needs close monitoring during this dreadful stage as the person fights the violent reaction of the withdrawal. And because of the effects of withdrawal, it is advised that a person should rather stop gradually, along with proper prescriptive medications.

If the person is coughing all through out this stage, this is normal but if there is blood along with the phlegm then is a serious problem and the person needs an immediate medical attention. In addition, a person is often feverish and can also suffer convulsions.

Leaving the bad habit of taking cocaine is very difficult but the new life afterwards can be very fulfilling and rewarding. A previous cocaine user can improve his way of life and learn from his mistakes. He may experience some respiratory problems even after he quits the drug but he can still be a good example to those who are thinking of taking their first shot.

Cocaine Side Effects – What’s in it for you?

Cocaine is one of the most widely used substances in the world today despite of its known side effects. It can be taken by snorting or sniffing, smoking or injection. Because of its ability to increase levels of dopamine in the brain, it can provide an intense feeling of being high. It has a strong psychological effect on the person that is using it. Adrenaline rush is also unbelievably spontanious. A user tends to be compulsive. It can affect the heart rate of a person as it becomes rapid and irregular. It can also cause a shortness of breath and hyperventilation. Other physical evidences are also apparent like enlargement of the pupils, excessive sweating, staggered speech, blurred vision and a hyper pace. Those who take cocaine by snorting often suffer from rhinitis due to the inflammation of nasal membranes, nosebleed and nasal infections or congestion. Stomach trouble and urinary tack infection are also prevalent.

Because cocaine targets the central nervous system, it has huge side effects on the brain. An addict can have distorted perception, extreme hallucination, mood swings that resemble the ups and downs of a roller coaster ride. Mental problems can also occur, diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia and chronic delusion that make a person highly erratic in nature. Some short-term effects are restlessness, alertness, agitation and anxiety, tightened blood vessels and uncontrollable temperature. Though some people use this drug for efficiency, prolonged use can totally injure the whole human system.

Cocaine is also known to depress sleepiness. A person can go on hours and hours without hitting the bed. When a person gets addicted to cocaine, he is never satisfied with it. He often runs after that perfect high but can never surpass what he felt the first time he tried it. He craves for it more and more. This could lead to substance intoxication, coma or even unexpected death.

When a person withdraws from the administration of cocaine, whatever its amount or frequency, side effects are still present. Coughing is a very common effect. He can take over the counter medicines or take in juices but he really needs serious immediate medical assistance if his black phlegm is mixed with blood. Insomnia is also a common side effect to those who withdraws from the drug abruptly.

What’s in cocaine for you? There’s nothing but temporary excitement and happiness. You become a victom of desire. You become a burden for the family who loves you. You can easily dump your life into the trash. Think about it, if you have already started, get off now!

Cocaine “in your system” Stupidity in Trafficking

A new article in the Daily Times tells about several drug smugglers caught with 123 cocaine filled condoms in their stomach. They evidently had filled the condoms with cocaine and coated them with resin and swallowed them smuggle them across the border.

This was a Nigerian arrested in Switzerland, last week nine people were arrested in France in a similar case last week on suspicion of taking part in cocaine trafficking between Spain and France.

If any of the condoms had broken, it would have been instant death. Those who have come of cocaine admit how stupid it is to take it, but this is stupider yet.
