Addiction Treatment Centres – Aiding The Helpless

by Abby Crackworth

Until a relatively recent change of perception, treating drug addicts was considered to be a difficult task indeed. Seen as a nuisance, associated with crime and delinquency, they were looked down upon and cast aside by many in society. However, treatment centres have begun to make an impact upon addicts and have gradually turned around the perception that treatment for addiction is merely a superficial luxury for the self-indulgent.

There are a growing number of treatment centres that offer programmes designed to help the addict. Narconon is one such example. Treatment centres offer an integrated treatment solution for the addict. They have helped to pave the way for acceptance, not of the addiction or the addict’s behaviour stemming from a result of that addiction but of the person them self and hope that something can be done to help.

The aim of these programmes is not just for them to be effective but to reliable so that they can be consistently effective. This aim is being adhered to all the time with technological advancements being fitted into the very top treatment centres. And the latest medical equipment being installed. That’s not to say that technology alone is the answer. It isn’t. Other, more traditional, methods are also still being used. Methods such as counselling, recreation and medication.

Addiction treatment centres ensure that each addict is being cared for in such a way that helps that individual. The aim is not just to help to alleviate the effects of the symptoms but to see that the addiction is not continued once the treatment is over and that is done by addressing what caused the addiction in the first place.

There are treatment centres available which are design to aid a particular sector of the public. One such sector catered for in this way are gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people. Special arrangements can be made with a special environment and facility so that they feel that they are being properly cared for. These services are available each and every day and at all hours. So if any further information is required, it can be obtained no matter what time or day.

Why Are Some Drug Rehab Centers More Successful Than Others?

by Frank Julien

Although the goal of all drug rehab centers may be the same; the method by which they achieve it can be very different. There are variations in programs as well as different missions and methods. People staffed at various centers can be very different as well. Here are some key points that make one treatment center stand out from the rest.

Drug Programs: Many drug treatment centers will skirt around the success issue or at the very least they will be vague about the numbers. Success means the overall success rate. Many times it takes two or even three times through a program before total success is achieved, but it is achieved.

Staff: A caring and professional staff can make all of the difference in the world between drug rehab centers. Unfortunately, many drug rehab centers are staffed with inexperienced or indifferent people who are only there to collect a paycheck. Other drug rehab centers, however, have committed, caring people who have a sincere desire to help others. Word gets around fast, especially when it comes to how people are treated. They want to go where they are not only going to be treated, but respected.

Treatment: There are some drug rehab centers that only recognize and treat the physical aspect of drug addiction. Addiction, as well as alcoholism affects a person’s physical, mental and spiritual being. Therefore, all three must be treated in order for success to occur. This is called holistic healing and more and more people are opting for this type of treatment.

A good drug treatment center, such as (http://www.narconon.ca) Narconon Trois-Rivieres, will assess each person individually to determine what exactly the best course of action is. Not all treatment programs work for all people. There has to be some individual therapy sessions and programs geared toward each person. Sadly, some drug treatment centers have a “one size fits all” attitude when it comes to treatment. When this is the case, many people do not successfully finish the program and have no desire to return to it since it is not tailored to their individual needs.

Obviously, there are more than three things which go into the making of a successful drug treatment center, such as (http://www.narconon.ca) Narconon Trois-Rivieres, but these are some of the more important aspects. Inside each category there are even more sub categories that need to be addressed. A successful drug treatment center goes down the list making sure every need is met in the program. Before entering a drug treatment center, ask questions and a lot of them. Find out what methods the center uses and why.

Experts Consider Fish Oil Supplements Powerful For Recovery From Drug Abuse

Experts Consider Fish Oil Supplements Powerful For Recovery From Drug Abuse

by Brittany W. Wallace

Eating a diet chock full o’ vitamins and nutrients has forever been critical for health, but now research studies demonstrate that there is possibly a link between drug dependency and dietary inadequacies. Carolyn Reuben, a nutrition expert (and the executive director of the Community Addiction Recovery Association in Sacramento, CA) says that our bodies often react to certain nutritional inadequacies in a manner that may in the end contribute to psychological disturbances and/or drug addiction.

She and other dieticians consider lack of omega-3 as part of the cause. Based on a person’s substance of choice or major ailments, Reuben states researchers can figure out which amino acids, vitamins and nutrients are deficient.

People struggling with substance often don’t eat a nutritious diet. Moreover, drugs deplete crucial nutrients from the substance abuser’s body, so supplanting and preserving them are an important part of recovery. Moreover, drugs use up vitamins and nutrients from the user’s body, therefore replenishing and maintaining these vitamins and nutrients are an important part of rehabilitation.

Reuben asserts, paraphrased, that there’s an a substantial connection between our conduct and our nourishment, a direct relationship between our food intake and good mood. If an individual starts drinking or taking drugs and their response is, “I don’t feel high, I feel normal,” that’s the key that indicates they came into life with a neurochemical insufficiency. They are deficient in something and we can correct that with our diet, sometimes with amino acids, fish oil, vitamin C or B. The benefits of fish oil seem to be of utmost significance.

This method is based on research by Professor Stephen Schoenthaler, PhD, who discovered a link between too much sugar consumption, low vitamin consumption and hostility, in 1985. He discovered that prison inmates who were administered daily vitamin/mineral supplements had as much as a 43% reduction in aggressive behavior, which prompted researchers to start exploring the link between nutrition and drug dependency. More recent clinical analysis have also discovered that giving prisoners fish oil capsules also decreases hostility.

The CARA program suggests that individuals (in cooperation with their physician) begin a program of taking 3 meals a day, each containing at least 20 g of protein, at least 4 cups of vegetables, 2 grams of vitamin C, a multivitamin, 1000-3000 mg of fish oils, 500 mg of L-glutamine, and 2-3 mcg of chromium. It also advises avoiding white sugar and flour, which could possibly exhaust the body of vitamin B. The program also suggests doing away with processed sugar and flour, which could deplete the body of vitamin B. Although numerous factors are responsible for drug and alcohol addiction, consuming a diet rich in nutrients, vitamins, minerals and fish oil supplements is emphatically an essential part of the successful way to recovery and a drug-free life!

Understanding And Utilizing Principles Concerning Addiction Treatment Plan

Understanding And Utilizing Principles Concerning Addiction Treatment Plan

by Barry Jensen

Being hooked on drugs may be a complex health problem but it is ordinarily treatable. By being familiar with the basic principles driving addiction treatments, there’s a considerably increased chance for ultimate success in terms of the patients breaking out of the hold that these substances have on them. Substance abuse alters the way the mind functions its no wonder that relapses are so common. By simply understanding an individual’s needs, in addition to the best treatment principles, you will have a better chance for a successful final result.

The purpose of addiction treatment methods are to make it easier for individuals to stop compulsively seeking and utilizing drugs and other substances. Addiction can be a chronic disorder, meaning short-term or one-time treatments will in all probability never be enough. Throughout a patient’s treatment, various interventions and persistent monitoring are crucial.

Addiction treatment must be specifically catered towards the person in question. A cookie-cutter method quite frankly won’t work. There is too much happening in a individual’s life, and way too many factors going into their psychological make-up to expect that just what worked for one patient will continue to work on another. Matching the best treatment plan to the right person is definitely an mighty important first step within the treatment process.

Whenever a treatment program is made for an individual patient, it needs to incorporate a program regarding behavior therapy, medication, or blending both. Each time this kind of plan is developed, it should be consistent with the sort of substance in question, the degree of the addiction, and any other history of drug abuse. It also needs to take into account all health, occupational, legal, family, and social issues that may have an impact on the patient’s life and decision-making ability.

Nearly all addiction treatments will look at supplying the patient the motivation the affected individual needs to produce favorable changes. Majority of these programs will also work to give incentives to obtain abstinence, teach the skills to withstand drug use, and give them the ability to substitute drug related activities with more constructive rewarding activities. Good addiction treatment will even improve the help the patients create much better interpersonal relationships so they’ll be surrounded with individuals which can help them continue abstaining from drug use in the future.

Based on individual needs, certain programs promote a type of treatment and guidance by means of either group therapy or individual sessions. Group therapy also has been incredibly successful in the past because doing so provides some effective social encouragement that may help these patients recognize that it is easy to end an addiction. It must also be mentioned, that addiction treatment doesn’t have to be voluntary to be successful, and there has been a lot of success for patients who were enticed, ordered, or forced into joining a program.

An individual’s needs are invariably shifting, this means an addiction treatment obviously cannot be a static plan. It has to keep shifting to satisfy the evolving needs of the patient, irrespective of whether that means an end to medical treatments or extra counseling sessions. Addiction treatment solutions are a continuing process, and achieving success is not measured in the completion of a program, but in the ability to constantly avoid all of the substances that caused a large number of problems.

One thing that Barry understands is (http://www.cliffsidemalibu.com/alcohol-rehab/alcohol-abuse/) alcohol abuse and the issues it can cause. He will be able to educate you all about (http://www.cliffsidemalibu.com/addiction-treatment/) addiction treatment and the ideas of implementing an productive program. What To Anticipate In Treatment For Addiction To Drugs Or Alcohol

What To Anticipate In Treatment For Addiction To Drugs Or Alcohol

by Michael Graham

When entering into a drug or alcohol rehab facility most people are filled with fear and anxiety.  This stems from uncertainty about their need for treatment, the strange environment, and the fact that they will be giving up the coping mechanism they have been relying on during years of substance abuse.  When searching for the appropriate drug and alcohol treatment center, it is important to ask the counselor you speak with what the daily regimen will be like.  This will help allay your fears of the environment and let you know what to expect.

If part of your treatment includes a detox from drugs or alcohol then a good portion of this time will be spent resting and allowing your body to recover from years of drug or alcohol abuse.  If you’re entering into a 28 day (or longer) residential treatment program then much of your day will be consumed by group meetings, drug and alcohol education, stress management, and other seminars focused on rebuilding life skills without the crutch of chemicals.

The effects that different drugs and alcohol have on a person’s body depend on the substance of abuse, the years of abuse, and the physical well being of the man or woman entering rehab. Older opiate addicts (including heroin, oxycontin, and others) can expect their detox to last anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks or more before their body begins to feel regular again. Detox symptoms for opiate addicts commonly include body aches and other difficulties like stomach cramps and intestinal problems. Younger alcoholics, however, can get through their detox in as little as 5 days and proceed quickly into an productive and meaningful plan of addiction therapy.

After you have had the opportunity to detox from your chemical of abuse (either drugs, alcohol, or both), your addiction treatment should focus on behavioral therapy. This can be done in either a residential treatment setting or an outpatient treatment program. Behavioral therapy like counseling (one-on-one or group), cognitive therapy, or psychotherapy supplies people in recovery with tools and strategies for dealing with issues like pressure and cravings. Addiction treatment also educates addicts how to avert relapse and how to deal with a relapse should one occur. On occasion the treatment specialists at the drug and alcohol rehab facility may suggest medications to the addict that will help lessen cravings and even stabilize their moods without the use of drugs or alcohol.

Before departing the drug and alcohol treatment center, the counselors should help you develop a structured plan of recovery for your life after rehab.  While a thorough treatment program will get to the root causes of your disease (and addiction is a disease), it is vital that you have an ongoing plan for your recovery when you are back to the real world.  This continuum of care should be written out and can be provided by attending 12 steps meetings like NA or AA, participating in an outpatient rehab program, and building relationships with other addicts in recovery.

While no one expects perfection from the addict in recovery, the best chances of success are achieved by working with others that understand your disease either from a professional perspective or from personal experience.

Do you feel like you are hopeless in the recovery mode.  Sometimes we can not check into residential treatment and desire to get off cocaine, but want to do it on our own.  Yes there are treatment programs to be able to stay at home and recover.  Yes it takes much determination, but hey getting off anyway takes the determination to keep going forward, even though sometimes we do hall back a little bit.  But looking from the broad picture, we still are going forward, sometimes 3 steps forward and slide back 1 or 2, but we are still going forward.

This program was mentioned on Fox News and CBS News, it bears checking out. Click Here!
